SRHR Umbrella Innovation Fund – Strengthening peer support interventions and movement of young people to influence inclusive integrated SRHR and HIV interventions and promote Universal Health Coverage in Busoga Region – SHARP.

Framed around the self-care guidelines, SRHR Umbrella – SHARP Project looks at SRHR comprehensively: Through the creation of a youth-led movement that goes beyond peer education – Peer To Peer Uganda with funding from the Swedish Embassy and Frontline AIDS is engaging peer leaders in the Busoga sub region on the current advocacy for universal health coverage through the implementation of the Uganda National Health Insurance Scheme Act 2019.

The project provides a platform for young people to connect, to learn and engage in advocacy in country. The project further builds the capacity of peer leaders, district’s relevant officials, CSOs, media, cultural and religious leaders, health care providers, Implementing partners, cultural and religious leaders on UHC for YP and KP’s. The SRHR Umbrella – SHARP project is implemented in the Busoga sub regional through building concerted community voices at sub county, district and regional level for young people and Key population to meaningfully be involved in the design and implementation of the UHC plans at both district and national level during and after the project implementation period of one year. The project is based on the actual needs realised from our initial projects implementation findings with in the districts and are guided by our M&E matrix framework. The project works around the person centred approach, and tap into the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Strategy (GESI) to raise and amplify youth-driven solutions on UHC.

The project objectives;

Improving awareness creation and sensitization of key stakeholders and duty bearers on inclusive UHC for young people and KP’s

Strengthening regional level peer driven and youth led movement building to influence advocacy for UHC and the implementation of the Uganda National Health Insurance Scheme Act 2019 in Uganda.

Through the SRHR Umbrella – SHARP project, PEERU;

Conducted a project baseline to establish the level of understanding on UHC among various key groups.

Engaging district based duty bearers on the understanding of the National Health Insurance Scheme Act. 2019, and UHC for young people and KP’s.

Working with its community peer leaders.

Engaging Health services providers through trainings and specialized service delivery models.

Media talk shows both at district and regional level.

Regional level media workshops targeting the entire Busoga Sub region, among other project engagements.
